A Conversation about Homeownership

Earlier this week, I had the good fortune to do a radio interview with WSVA Virginia on our newly released Homeownership Progress Index (HPRI).  In the interview we talked about the importance of homeownership as the primary vehicle for wealth creation for middle-class Americans, discussed underlying economic, demographic, and lifestyle conditions that influence the choice to become a homeowner, and considered what parts of the country are doing better or worse than average.

“Homeownership is one of the primary ways in which middle-class Americans grow wealth, so it's very important to understand why people aren’t becoming homeowners... ”

Why is Washington, D.C. so significantly improved?  Why is California’s homeownership rate lower than the national average? And of course, how are Millennial’s lifestyle decisions influencing homeownership rates?
