Recently, First American’s Central Florida offices hosted a golf charity event at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fl.  Event participants raised $1,400 for OneOrlando, a fund that provides support for those affected by the shooting at Pulse Nightclub.

OneOrlando_Photo_2.jpgOrlando Mayor Buddy Dyer set up the OneOrlando Fund in the days following the tragedy at the gay nightclub, which left 49 dead and 53 injured.  Thanks to thousands of generous donors, OneOrlando has raised more than $20 million, 100 percent of which will be distributed directly to both survivors of the shooting and the families of the victims.

Event coordinator Rachel Alderman worked closely with First American’s Florida state manager, the leadership team and the Central Florida Salesforce team to make the fundraiser a reality.  “It started as an idea,” said Rachel, a sales representative.  “Then everyone came together as a team and made the event a success.”

The day of the fundraiser dawned clear and sunny.  Employees and customers alike arrived at the golf course ready to show off their swings.  A convoy of golf carts made their way from hole to hole as five groups of four enjoyed both the perfect weather and the friendly camaraderie.  After all twenty golfers sank their last putts, the event moved indoors for a raffle, which featured items donated by several vendors.

“We do not live in a perfect world and there are always people out there who need help,” Rachel said.  “Tragic events in life require positive action to heal and bring families and communities together.”

Additionally, First American is an equal opportunity employer and strives to create a culture of inclusiveness.  Many employees, family, friends and customers were affected by the terrible tragedy at Pulse Nightclub.  First American provided grief counselors for their Orlando offices and donated money to the Pulse Victims Fund in the days following the shooting.  Similarly, the Central Florida offices wanted to help support the grieving Orlando communiy.OneOrlando_Photo_4.jpg  “This event was our way of giving back,” said Rachel.

By banding together for a day of solidarity, the group hoped to contribute to the continued healing of the community.  “We do not live in a perfect world and there are always people out there who need help,” Rachel said.  “Tragic events in life require positive action to heal and bring families and communities together.”
