San Francisco’s Sunset District, the city’s foggy western edge where new home construction is rare, could accommodate an additional 1,300 housing units under a proposal by Supervisor Katy Tang.
Tang’s plan, contained in a sweeping “Sunset District Blueprint,” would add density to a neighborhood that historically has seen little new construction for several decades.
“Without any changes to existing height limits or zoning, our district could accommodate an additional 1,000 housing units along our transit and commercial corridors,” reads Tang’s plan. “Many buildings have not yet maximized their full potential and several under-utilized sites could be transformed into more effective neighborhood-serving uses.”
