A pending end to a building moratorium in Natomas has some people involved with potential developments looking at possibilities that haven’t been seriously considered in more than half a decade.
Greg Thatch, an attorney for commercial development Commerce Station, said if nothing else, two office buildings that were part of the project could move ahead soon after the moratorium is lifted, which could happen by year’s end.
“One has to look at the market, of course,” Thatcher said. “But we think those office buildings would be a centerpiece to the entire Natomas region.”
Commerce Station, a 180-acre project north of Del Paso Boulevard and west of East Commerce Way, is fully entitled and also would include retail and restaurants, Thatch said.
Across Interstate 5 to the west, developer Enlow Ose said the market will also be a determining factor in developing 70 acres on Del Paso. Past proposals there included office buildings, high-density residential units and 400,000 square feet of retail.
“It’s within the city, so obviously, it’ll be affected by whatever’s done with the moratorium,” Ose said, adding Ose Properties also owns 1,000 acres farther north at Elverta Road and Highway 99, currently zoned for agricultural use.
