The U.S. Senate passed legislation on Thursday to kickstart levee improvement in Natomas that will effectively lift a five-year building moratorium for the Sacramento community.
The Water Resources Reform and Development Act authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to proceed with a $1 billion effort to finish levee work on the Natomas basin.
The bill, which was held up for over a year in the U.S. House of Representatives, before it was passed earlier this week, now heads to President Barack Obama, who is expected to sign it.
