Explosive growth across San Francisco is sparking a strong anti-development backlash, even as the city's astronomical cost of housing has become the talk of the town from City Hall to neighborhood cafes.

The latest frontier is Potrero Hill, where Related Companies of California is proposing to build a 320-unit complex at 1601 Mariposa. While the project is consistent with the new Eastern Neighborhoods rezoning that was a decade in the making, a strong organized opposition has emerged, called Grow Potrero Responsibly.
