From the article:
A Placer County project that was shelved five years ago is back with a new developer, who has renewed an earlier offer to provide free land for a satellite campus of California State University Sacramento.
Placer Ranch, which is 2,200 acres along the northern edge of Roseville within the county’s Sunset Industrial Area, was bought by Westpark Communities from former owner Eli Broad, who shelved plans for it in 2008.
“The opportunity presented itself, and Sac State is excited about restarting the process to establish a campus there,” said Jeff Jones, Westpark’s chief operating officer.
“Obviously, we and Sac State are at the start of the process, but there will definitely be a campus and a very large jobs component.”
The university would occupy 300 acres donated by Westpark and slightly west of the center of Placer Ranch. In addition to housing and the campus, Placer Ranch will also have office, retail and industrial development, and would include land for the first phase of the Placer Parkway project to connect Highways 99 and 65.
Jones said the next step would be working with both the city of Roseville and Placer County on actual entitlements for development, but it’s too soon to know exactly when the project could break ground. He also said it’s not clear whether Placer Ranch will stay in the county or be annexed to the city of Roseville, adding how talks proceed with both entities will dictate that step.
