The City of Alameda is putting in gear a plan to attract developers to Alameda Point, a 878-acre former naval base.
Several proposals from private developers have come and gone during the past fifteen years, so city leaders decided to direct the re-use of the base on their own.
The city recently released a draft environmental impact report for the public to review which outlines development of 5.5 million square feet of commercial space, 1,425 homes and 250 acres of open space.
“The draft EIR is a major stepping stone to clear the way for development to happen,” said Jennifer Ott, Alameda’s chief operating officer for Alameda Point.
