An upscale new housing project could soon scrub away a Mountain View car wash.
Sares Regis Group of Northern California has proposed a 52-unit housing project at 1101 W. El Camino Real, currently home to Harv's Car Wash.
The site, near the intersection of West El Camino and South Shoreline Boulevard, is just under an acre and was built in 1969, according to title records. Sares Regis Group has not decided whether the project will be rental or for-sale condos.
Amenities will include a landscaped courtyard, outdoor entertainment and gathering spaces, bike storage and a spa.
Regional planning leaders have been keen on seeing the storied thoroughfare redeveloped to include more housing and less sprawl as part of the Grand Boulevard Initiative.
“The project would transform this underutilized site, allowing residents to walk to transit, employment, retail, restaurants and services in downtown Mountain View and along the El Camino Real corridor,” said Todd Regonini, chief development officer at Sares Regis Group of Northern California, in a statement. “In addition to respecting the evolving vision for El Camino Real outlined in the Grand Boulevard Initiative, the new residences would be located across the street from McKelvey Park, and within walking distance of Eagle Park.”
