What is it?
The “iStar parcel” is a 76-acre triangle of land near the intersection of Great Oaks Parkway and State Route 85, adjacent to the former IBM disk drive campus that is now owned by Western Digital. While land to the west has been developed, the iStar owned parcel has not except for the Equinix Data Center.
What’s going on?
The owner and the city have been trading ideas on the mix of housing and commercial uses. Now it appears both sides are nearing a consensus. The developer is seeking zoning for up to 720 homes, 154,000 square feet of retail space and 260,000 square feet of office. It is one of the largest chunks of available land in San Jose, and the Blossom Hill Caltrain station and the Cottle Road light rail station serve the area.
