A Jan. 28 hearing before the Redwood City City Council has been set for a group hoping to stop the redevelopment of Pete's Harbor.
The group of boat dwellers and others who have organized under the name Save Pete's Harbor are appealing the planning commission's recent approval of the project.
The appeal is based on several arguments, among them that the city's general plan expresses support for boat liveaboards, the marina provides affordable housing, and a new environmental impact report is needed.
Tenants say they weren't given enough notice to move out because they were only informed in mid-September that a developer had submitted an application in July, according to the appeal. On Oct. 30, the planning commission unanimously approved the project that calls for turning the marina into an upscale apartment complex with private boat slips.
The marina's namesake, Pete Uccelli, died a few years ago, but his widow, Paula Uccelli, has said that residents were on month-to-month leases and have known for more than a decade about the family's plans to eventually develop the site.
