Brentwood development plans scaled back because of economic downturn

BRENTWOOD -- A winery and events center are being dropped from plans for a major residential and commercial community here because of the economic downturn.

In 2004, The Vineyards at Marsh Creek was planned to feature a scenic working winery, catering and an amphitheater near Fairview Avenue. This regional events center was envisioned as the centerpiece of the proposed housing and commercial plans near Marsh Creek Road, according to city officials.

"It has tremendous panoramic views extending 300-plus degrees toward the west, north and south," Brentwood Community Development Director Casey McCann said.

After the recession hit, McCann said a feasibility study deemed this events center impractical for a long time. The current plans being reviewed call for a community park in its place.
