Menlo Park may sell city lot for $8 million for east side housing project

 

During a meeting with business park tenants on Menlo Park's east side last month, Mayor Kirsten Keith noted that the city will consider selling its Hamilton Avenue property so it could be developed with some adjacent parcels into housing.

On Tuesday, the city council will be asked to approve the sale of the city's 2.1-acre parcel at 777-821 Hamilton Ave. to developer Greenheart Land Co. for $8 million. In a memo for the council meeting, City Attorney Bill McClure notes that industrial businesses flank the parcel's left and right sides and that "most of the six owners of those properties have expressed an interest in selling to a developer so that most, if not the entire block, can be included in the potential project." Counting those and the city's lot, the total size of the project area would be 7.1 acres, McClure wrote.
